There’s something undeniably cool about a really light bike, often the fruits of an obsession and some (or much) hard to justify expense. In our view a lightweight mountain bike is a step cooler still, because it’s much more tricky to achieve. Throw in rear suspension and the objective falls even further out of reach. This was our objective nevertheless. The frame choice was quite simple: a limited edition, brave bright pink @iamspecialized S-Works Epic World Cup, the lightest in its category. For components, we went with a beloved veteran brand from Italy, @extralite_official , cutting edge, ridiculously light bits from @darimocarbon in Spain and, for the groupset, @srammtb new XX1 SL Transmission, topped with matching @ceramicspeed derailleur cage. At 8.8 kg (ok, 8.87), we think we’ve exceeded expectations. It’s properly light, properly fast, properly airborne at the slightest encouragement and, complete with dropper post, still a very versatile XC bike.
